Workshop 'Rethinking Food Discard Beyond Hegemonic Frameworks', 12-13 October 2026, Prague

RESOURCE team organised a workshop in Prague

The RESOURCE team organised a two-day workshop "Rethinking Food Discard Beyond Hegemonic Frameworks" in Prague. The aim of the workshop was to address the following question: What can be learned when the scope of scholarly engagement with household food waste is expanded beyond the ontological straitjacket focused on waste reduction along the journey from the shop to the bin? Food waste arises and - more importantly - is prevented as a result of a plethora of everyday, unreflective, and routinised practices and interactions that are, more often than not, driven by concerns other than sustainability, including thrift and frugality, yet whose net effect is waste minimisation.
Two days of presentations and in-depth discussions in the company of Benedetta Cappellini, Evelien de Hoop, David Boarder, Giles, Claudia Giordano, Haldis Haukanes, Petr Jehlička, Maike Melles, Michaela Jaterková, Patrick O'Hare, Liia-Maria Raippalinna, Daniel Sosna, Violeta Stancu, Patrik Zapata, and María José Zapata Campos were stimulating and led to intense discussions. We, as a RESOURCE team, are excited and hope that this collective momentum will make a substantial contribution to the understanding of food systems.

We thank Ivana Camphuijsen and Denisa Sovková for their support and Jan Macků for his wonderful artwork.
