RESOURCE in the field

Building on the previous research by Maike Melles and the ongoing research by Michaela Jaterková, Daniel Sosna has explored the lives of people who rely on food aid. The research is based primarily on interviews and observations. It has been developing slowly, given the sensitive environment. The idea is to gain insight into practices and modes of thinking about food and water among people who lack the comfort to engage with high-brow theorising or activism regarding sustainability, which is the privilege of the middle-class educated people. Without being ideological or even aware of the consequences of their forms of living for the future of the planet, these people have developed ways to use water and food wisely. Daniel builds on his previous field experience with migrant workers living in the dorms and various waste workers, who showed an interesting mix of thriftiness and wastefulness in their use of key resources such as water, food, electricity, and gas.
